It sounds like you are doing everything right,, Try this though: If you haven't already, go into System preferences->Dashboard &Expose Disable the F12 hotkey that launches Dashboard Now go back into your PT session, record enable the audio track with the correct input for your guitar. Hit the F12 key to start recording.. Any difference?

F12 was already disables. I tried starting a recording with F12 but it made no difference. I have since de-installed ProTools and re-installed it. No change. Still won't record. Buck

Sorry to second guess you here... but you say you "create a new track" - are you creating an Audio Track or and Instrument Track? It should be an Audio Track.

here's something else to try.. On the transport, ctrl-click on the record button until you get punch record mode ( a "p" in the button ) Record enable the track, hit play on the transport, then hit the record button on the transport.. Anything?

I'm glad I started this thread off by admitting I was a newbie. I have been creating instrument tracks instead of audio tracks. Thanks DTS! The instrument tracks acted like they were ready to record and went through all the motions except recording. Thanks again! Buck
You're welcome! The Instrument Tracks actually record MIDI data, so they were recording but there wasn't anything valid coming in to capture. Glad that solved it...
