Ok, I'm obviously missing something somewhere. How do you snap (move) the position of an item to a marker? I've searched through the SWS extensions and various menus and haven't found anything that appears to do this. Since this would (to my mind) be a very basic feature I can't understand how I'm not finding it. Anyone want to point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

One way is to select the item, move your edit/play cursor to the marker Action: Go to previous (or next) marker Then choose Action: Move selected items left edge to the edit cursor. I have these set up in a toolbar, so I can go to markers or edit them fast.

...and with SWS extesions, you could save the edit cursor position beforehand, and restore it afterwards, so effectively you wouldn't be moving it with this custom action... >

If your working with the grid turned on, turn it off for a sec, then drag item to the marker. Are you wanting to do this without the mouse?

I'm starting editing of dialogue for a movie. On some scenes there may be 24+ takes from which I may pull a word or a syllable as required. I'll set a marker precisely at the point where, say, a word needs to be replaced. I'll go through the alternate takes and find suitable candidates to replace the problem word, tight edit them and then move them into place before listening in context to see which works best. Ideally I would be able to "snap item to marker x" so I'm not constantly zooming in/out and dragging tiny pieces into place. (That's a time waster/PITA). It would simply be "snapped" to the appropriate location. Remeber, these alternate takes could be sitting anywhere on the timeline outside the scene to keep them out of the way. Example: scene starts at 01:15:20:00. Word needing replacement is at 01:19:02:08. Alternate takes may be loaded at 00:50:00:00.

I'm still not quite sure on what your wanting to do, but if you want to move an item's edge to a marker using a custom action, and have the edit cursor recalled, it might work depending if the edit cursor is right of the marker, and if your moving items left to the marker. Here's an example. And the result Hope this helps Regards, Wyatt

If I was doing dialogue replacement like that, I might set up some actions on a toolbar, and I'd probably also use Marker Sets so I'd have lots of control and flexibility over how I was flying from one end of a scene/project to the other. There are Marker: Goto marker n actions and I'm sure with a copy/cut and a paste these could be used to do exactly what I think you want. If your replacement point was at marker 2, you'd just select your copy to marker 2 button on your toolbar while you were working. You might have to tread slightly carefully if you're pasting to a different track to that copied from, but it should be relatively easy to setup and manage. Maybe because of this, the Post guys have never though it worthwhile submitting a FR for this function..? >

Thanks to everyone for your input. WyattRice, your use of the "SWS: Move..." command instead of my original "move left edge of item to edit cursor" in the custom action was the key to making items move. Planetnine, your idea of "item: copy selected area/item: paste items" works a treat. Now all I have to do is figure out how to make a toolbar with buttons to select different markers and I'm off to the races. Even old dogs can learn new tricks...it just takes us longer. :)

It's in the Up & Running REAPER manual, but I learned more from Geoffrey's REAPER Plus! SWS extensions manual (on Tim's SWS site) and I'm now gradually honing a palette of action buttons for my type of work. PS: The copy and paste method works differently with Trim behind items when editing enabled, but I have that toggling on a floating toolbar button for ease when editing. >
