Hello! Sorry, don't have Skype and as I have to get up early I'm usually in bed by 10.30pm so I hadn't seen this earlier. The exhaust doesn't have to be removed to get the box out - there should be enough space to get a 17mm spanner onto the top bellhousing bolts from above. The bolts should also be able to be completely removed with the exhaust in the way. I did my gearbox swap and a subsequent clutch change without needing to remove the exhaust. The dipstick did have to be removed as I recall - if the old gearbox is scrap then i suggest just hacksawing through it near where it joins the sump. The biggest pain is the gearbox transmission fluid cooling lines as only one can be undone easily. It may help if you undo them at the radiator end along with all securing clamps and drop the box with them still attached. They're relatively soft and so will bend enough for you to manouevre the 'box out backwardds whilst bending the lines out of the way. The starter motor doesn't need to be removed, just the two Allen bolts that hold it to the bellhousing. The blanking plate the other side has to come off and the lower blanking plate too.
reviving an old thread here... what manual box did you use? and cable clutch i presume. now this flywheel that needs to be changed if going manual, what car would i find one? cheers P.S the thansk you should of got all this time ago has been added, can't believe i missed that!
